Today I went to the bank and got four CWRs of dimes, along with some other stuff. When I opened the first roll, there were four 1970 dimes (I did not find any more in the rest of the rolls). Out of these four, three were the FS-901 variety, or Reverse of 1968 S Proof. How rare is this variety? I have heard people saying that they have found many of these, but out of how many 1970 dimes would I expect to find one of these. And how many of these reverse dies were used? Second of all, is this variety really worth anything?
I don't think these are all that rare. I've found several of them on 1970 and 1970-D dimes. Probably about 50% are the FS-901 variety. Now if you find one on a 1969 dime, those are considerably rarer. I haven't found any of those yet.
Ok, thank you for the information. I have definitely heard that the '69s are rarer. Apparently there very few known examples, and I saw a PCGS MS64 for $700 on ebay!
