D almost looks glued on. Pure acetone soak might remove it.

Why would someone glue a D on a 56? Am I missing something or just practicing?

NOT glued ON! Sheesh!

I outlined the edge of a drop of a very clear, glass-like substance, notice how the underneath refracts the exact under color/shades

Awesome close up! As for myself I prefer to back off a bit, 3 - 4 devices per image. Example date with the mint mark may help bring it into perspective. Anything closer can mimic glue, a nose hair, spec of dust or the first lunar landing. Thanks, Doug.

I am thinking possibly some type of sticky residue of some kind. Maybe put it in Acetone for awhile and see if it comes off.
