https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-c...-agenda.htmlI hate the majority of the War in the pacific quarters. Nothing says war like turtles or fish. I also hate the river of no return where the wolf is looking right at you. If this is the wrong place for this feel free to move it. Edited by ckrakowski 10/18/2017 4:49 pm

Nothing says war like turtles or fish. Well ya surley can't put a soldier with a gun on a war coin in todays society! What else are you gonna put!

The war memorial should be a no brainier to have the memorial. As far as how a fish and turtle design even became a finalist for the war in the pacific, well clearly some people have no business in the job they're doing

The best I can come up with is that it is a protected area and popular with divers. That is, the turtles and fish are significant to the park and not the war.

The mint's money-grubbing tentacles find their way into every nook and crevice.

I like the river of no return designs. The wolf looking right at you is a nice change from the common theme of a howling wolf's side profile. The fish and turtle are a bit odd for a war memorial, but I agree with jbuck's idea for why anyone would design them. I don't believe I have ever looked at any coin and thought that I hated it, but I am easy to please when it comes to coins.

When I saw those War In The Pacific Designs my first response was . When I hear the phrase "War In The Pacific"' I tend to think of the overall Pacific campaign rather than the park specifically. But once I realized that the design is about the whole park, I found myself warming to the designs a bit more - I think the turtle and the sunken plane strike the best balance between nature and history, after thought.

Some decent looking designs. I for one actually prefer the ATB series to the State Quarters; feels like the Mint is finally using 21st century engraving technology without having to resort to gimmicks. Most (although not all) are aesthetically pleasing, too. I always like finding a new design in my change, on the rare occasion that I use cash these days.

I agree, my feelings changed once I stepped back and realized what the coin was actually for; a park, not a war.

The park itself was created to commemorate the battles and the sacrifice that occurred during the war in that theater. It was also a battle ground that still has reminders of that all over the place. While technically it may be a park, it would not be doing the meaning or the park itself justice to depict it with some wildlife. https://www.nps.gov/wapa/index.htm

The park commemorates the battles, the coin commemorates the park. I do not see anything wrong with that. I doubt any surviving soldier or family would want to go to there to see another battle. A war memorial does not always show the images of war, so why must a coin?

It doesn't have to have a battle scene though in this instance those are some of the best designs, all I am saying is that simply having a fish or a turtle or the wild life doesn't capture the meaning of the park. From the designs they have to choose from the gun emplacement with the flags is probably the most fitting
