Can the everyone advise what is the best lighting setup and which usb microscope for pc they are using for crisp clear photos of mint marks? I am having trouble with getting clear shots. I did not disappear after my garage sale find. I am trying to evaluate the 450 coins that all have to be looked over correctly. Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks everyone for the comments and advise so far!
Rest in Peace

I cannot recommend a specific microscope as I no longer use one but I will say whatever you do end up with you will want an adjustable stand to mount it on Similar to the attached.http://www.amscope.com/200x-2mp-8-l...BEgIjTvD_BwE

That stand is similar to what came with mine and I do not like it much.It is however, a bit better than the one that came with my Celestron 44304. The big problem is going to be with the on board lights no matter which scope you get. I had to block off all but one light and put a filter over that one. The one I left is at 12k. I then use a handheld LED flashlight, one with a filter over it and one without a filter over it. I actually prefer using a point and shoot camera set to macro mode and natural sunlight whenever possible.

I just purchased the Carson MM-840 EFlex. It takes great close up's as well as full images of cioins. As others have mentioned, it's all about the lighting. I try not to use the on board lights and try to use natural light coming in through an opened window or a flashlight. Also, it does come with a flexible stand (hence the name EFlex) but to take full images you will need to place the scope on books, or what ever works for you, to elevate the scope.
Here's the link to it. I hope it's ok to post this link

If the link is removed, just look up the model on Google.

I just got through reviewing the Celestron Handheld Digital Microscope Pro, and found it was pretty good at showing mintmarks, see the results here:

As others have said, lighting is a big issue, but unless the scope has some method of white balancing, most of these scopes are pretty hopeless. Does the Carson have some way to adjust WB?
