I heard that you can get bags of coins from coinsorting machines.I asked at Kmart if I can get some coins from their coinstar, but they said that they do not have access to it. They said that a coinstar technitian comes and takes the coins out every once in a while.

I never heard of anyone collecting the counted coins from coinstar. I just shake my head every time I see lazy folks dumping coins into these machines.

You join a credit union that has a machine and buy them.

Surely there must be a local distribution company that services the machines on a regular basis?

CoinStar machines are serviced by company personnel, stores that host them do not have access to the coins. CoinStar has regional facilities that accept the tubs and AFAIK they do not sell individual tubs/bags etc. to the public.

Stores often use them to dispose of excess coins without fees, it is likely part of the hosting agreement. The store gets paid rent to allow the machine to be present and to pay for power used by the machine. They typically have a cellular data connection so it won't be on the store's data network. These are similar agreements they may have with RedBox and other vending machines.

No, you cannot buy coins from a coinstar.

I've seen and chatted with Loomis personnel as they service coinstar machines in my area.

If you are a silver hunter, keep in mind that Coinstar machines typically reject those coins.

Yup. For silver it is better to just check the reject slots on multiple machines than trying to get a hold of bag.

I bought two bags of dimes ($1,000 each) from my local bank, found 2 silver in one bag and 8 in the other, so they didn't get rejected.

BUT I DID, the head teller when I asked for another bag said they cannot sell them to me because they have trouble accounting for them. I don't dump anything at that bank uses other with counters that won't even give out rolls.

The thing about bags is you could get a silver dump. I am still trying to get another source

I have two credit unions I am a member of, both with coin counters. There is only one that lets me buy them. The other does not. I'm sure its up to the branch Manager.

The only silver you're likely to find from their bags are War Nickels - those usually don't get rejected as they're the same weight as a regular nickel. The ONLY War Nickel I've gotten out of a coinstar was one which was plated and resultingly weighs about .10 gram too much.
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

One of the banks I have an account with has machines and will sell the bags from machine but only when they are full. I have left my name with 2 different branches to call me once they have full bags. Hoping their machines don't sort out the copper for rejection...lol
