Hello all,

Today I picked this up from a Rommelmarkt in Belgium, not this one but one exactly the same, same colour, same ribbon, carbon copy of this one pictured.

It came with a piece of paper folded inside it (which is what drew me to it), the paper was a reciept or sort of authorization from the maker in Paris, this place

https://bacqueville-medailles.com/i...%C3%A9daille

It says Monsieur xxxxx has been awarded/authorized this Medaille Or (Gold in French). Has other writing too but its all in French, then handsigned by the President of the committee. Its not a Certificate like they do these days but its a A5 size piece with the shop, the shops address, the writing, his name, the date (which is 1974) and ofc the signature of the President.

My question is, is this medal made of Gold? It looks it, I tried to ask the Now President on Facebook but he seemed to answer with a riddle, maybe because he's French it got lost in translation lol.

It has small markings on the side of the medal, very small and feint but looks like a triangle with some writing next to it but again, far to small to read.

The medal itself is the Medal of Honor for Volunteer services in France.

Any clarification would be a massive help, the colour on my medal is exactly the same as this one.

All the best

If you have a jeweler nearby that might be able to do an XRF on this piece.

Found this one on ebay http://www.ebay.fr/itm/DEC4886-MEDA...391904709302 Seems to be around 25-30 euros on auction sites, so probably not gold. There is a smaller reduced size medal which the one you posted looks like, seems to be around the same width of the ribbon attached. (Like yours). Wonder if the other one is much larger? Can't find any information on it though.

Hope that helps a little - I speak no french nor collect these just did a quick search with my google-fu knowledge.

According to this blog http://medaille-anpdsb.over-blog.co...nevoles.html (see PDF link on it) you can nominate people for 15 euros and enclose that PDF application filled out, it was dated as recent as 2016.

Hello, ty for the responses.

Yea I saw the same for 25-30 Euros, only thing that has me wondering is nowadays they bung all sorts of metals in but because this is from 1974, back in the day they were a little more extravagant, tho ofc I could be completely wrong lol.

I'll have to do what MeadowviewCollector said and take it to a Jewelers and see what they say, probably that its not Gold lol, It's just because it was/is an early one I'm hoping that when they dished them out Gold actually meant Gold, unlike today, here is my version.

If it turns out to be non-Gold, I might try re-uniting it with a member of his family
