The other side of the coin isn't damaged at all. Wouldn't you expect it to be if it were something like That?

The part that has the crimping head that "curls" the metal has one side flat to hold the grommet in place while squeezing it.

This topic has come up previously on this forum, and the center swirl is often attributed to getting caught in a coin-rolling machine.
