my buddy son found this coin and sent it to me and even though the image isn't good but I was wondering your opinion on this nickel. the rim on the obverse is pretty deep and hoping the obverse has a strike from either the back or another coin lol. the reverse strike seems weak and no rim but just curious what you guys think.

just a cent and a nickel that really enjoyed each other's company.

If people yelp about using the term penny rather than cent you can remind them that when they are received directly from the mint, the mint (the guys and gals that make them) they have PENNY on the roll from the mint. Not cent.

If I open a box labeled "DOGS" and it's filled with cats, does that make them dogs?

The cent says "CENT" right there are on the reverse. I've looked at a lot of them and not one of them says "Penny".

Yes, it looks like one of those $0.01 coins was smashed against the face of your $0.05 coin. The reverse was against a flat surface and smoothed out under the pressure. "Vise job", "garage job", etc. PMD

In order for this to happen at the mint, the coin would be too large for the striking process of a nickel.
If this were a legit errer then the reverse would also so be struck with the head die.
Also the devices would be raised and not incuse.
So this coin was probably altered after the coin was struck. PSD
The opposite side of this coin was been sanded off. So everything points to PSD.
