I have a 1937 penny that had a fairly significant die error or clash. Have you seen one similar and does this do anything for value? What is this error actually called? Thanks!

Looks like retained lamination. I wouldn't want it but there are some out there that would pay a premium for it!!

Laminations are just flaws on the individual coin planchet, not made up right and materials separated, part bent back over. Some do go bonkers over these things, I just think of them as normal coin damages.

@skoonce65, first welcome to CCF. Second, I agree with the others that your coin has a lamination and while this flaw occurred while the coin was at the mint, any premium will be pretty modest. It is an interesting coin and worth saving!

Yep, it's a lamination error. I would say that the earlier date is a plus and some people would buy it. I've sold a few lams on ebay between $5-$10.
