This came in a lot with that gold Byzantine, probably also on its way back out the door to make room for some other Romans. Still a pretty coin, reminds me a lot of Nero.

Seleucid Kingdom
Antiochus IX Cyzicenus, 116-96 BC
AR Tetradrachm
Diademed head right
BASILEWS ANTIOXOU PHILOPATROS, Athena holding Nike, resting hand on a shield, all within wreath. Monograms before and behind.
Not sure how to determine the mint for these?

Seleucid-Kingdom:-Antiochus-Ix-Tetradrachm

It amazes me how most of these Greek rulers were able to stay in power as long as they did. Antiochus IX lost his father and uncle to warfare at an early age, and was raised in Cyzicus under the radar. He ruled jointly with his brother Antiochus VIII for a while, and but eventually became entangled in almost constant warfare over the kingdom. His first wife Cleopatra IV was murdered by his brother's wife (and her own sister). He then married Cleopatra Selene, sister of his dead wife and her murderer. Antiochus IX finally fell in battle against his nephew Seleucus VI.

"Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown" - Shakespeare.
The Seleucid kings lead very dangerous lives.
The Apocrypha was written in this period.
