First, the size of this brass coin is rather odd, it's rather large (~45mm), while, AFAIK, Chinese coins are rather small in the 23-28 mm range?

Moreover, there are 2 odd things with the design:
1.The character at the bottom of the obverse is usually found at right.
2.The reverse is usually has characters denoting mintmarks, while the whole reverse of this coin is blank. The rims however confirms that the blank is not due to wear.

I've looked through the Krause catalogs, including other asian countries too (Korea, Vietnam, Japan), but I gave up.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure but it could be a kind of charm, not a coin.
I don't know about authenticity and rarity of these things.

Large Chinese cash coins with blank reverses tend to be from the Northern Song dynasty.

Some googling indicates that this particular type appears to be a Ch'ung-Ning T'ung-Pao, 10 cash, S-621, 1102-6 AD.
A weight of 8.64 grams is about right for the issue (maybe a bit on the low end), but a diameter of 45 mm is far too large - you sure you didn't mean 35?
Rest in Peace

Its a stamped coin, can't be from Song, all were cast. Characters are mushy, almost cartoonist, hummm, magnetic?

Sorry for the late reply..

My bad, it's 35 mm
After measuring it again, it's actually 34mm diameter.

Thanks january1may you nailed it!
