I hope no one is offended if I repost this coin. The old topic title is not descriptive and Mike Diamond's description of the errors is buried at the bottom of a list of comments saying it is PMD so few will ever read far enough to know what the coin really is.

Here is Mike Diamond's comment on the coin:

"An impressive multi-error. The coin was double-struck, with the first strike in-collar and the second out-of-collar. The coin was struck through "grease" (with some of the black crud retained) and small fragments of copper (retained). Neato!"

I believe I am going to have to send this one off to get it properly certified as no one will ever believe me otherwise!

O_O

Agreed on all counts. On first glance, it's a coin which got brutalized in circulation. Looking closer, there won't be enough room on the slab label to identify it all.
Rest in Peace

I can honestly say I thought it impossible for this to be any kind of error.

After studying it again with that explanation I will continue with my ignorance. I just can't imagine the process that caused this monstrosity.

I believe we all do, some topics sometimes extend to several pages of thread.

That's about the only other option you'd have to get it attributed other than M.Diamond's findings which in general when Mike talks , we listen.
Good luck with TPG,looking forward to seeing the final results.

You will probably need to tell them what Mike Diamond said. They don't always get error coin Id'd correctly.

I am in the ignorant camp here as well.
I also think that it will be hard to find a buyer for such a coin. I didn't know any collectors who specialize in "Double struck in and out of collar through grease and something else" errors.
What I am trying to say is, that the investment of slabbing may not be worthwhile considering how difficult it may be to sell such a coin. (Even if one is not looking to sell, I beleive that the ability to sell is the main way values are attributed)
So, nice find, very interesting. Good luck

I am thinking that the value of slabbing is more in getting the coin and the documentation of what the errors are in one certified place. Not so much about the value at all, which is a big "who knows" anyway since this thing is not exactly eye candy.

Another way of looking at it is, this is just about the "errorest" of all possible errors, and if you're looking for the "most" in any one category this coin is a prime candidate. I could easily see this one going for moon money in an attributed slab.

That is a great find. I also would have thought PSD. If you slab it let us know what they put on the label.

I think it would fetch a decent premium if it is slabbed as multi error specimen.Like SsuperDdave said it will stand it's own unique *error variety category*
will wait to see it back from TPG
