1884 AU55 1884-S XF-45+ Great looking 1884-S. Not easy to find uncleaned in higher grades.

I agree with bandsdean and I really like both coins. Really great examples for the grade.

Thank you everyone. I have a hard time grading coins that are xf-au. It's hard not to try to upgrade and justify it to urself. That's why I value your opinion so I can keep myself honest and keep learning

To my mind, the 6-8-10-12 and 35-40-45 grading bands are the most difficult to differentiate, across all issues. Too much variance exists between dies and wear patterns, and frankly as a result I think there are too many grade numbers in play for it to ever be easy. I have the 1884-P at a conservative AU53, and the 1884-S at XF45. With a Morgan, at XF40 I expect neck feather and wingtip wear to be more prominent.
