I would respectfully disagree with that thought, if only because it's one in a thousand that one could dip a circulated coin and achieve something not looking too "clean" for the grade. There has to be underlying luster to justify such a step, and it's possible you wouldn't know if that luster were present until afterward. So, as a generality (understanding "generality" can't really apply here ), I won't advise dipping any coin which has circulated. Dipping is always a risk, and dipping a circulated coin is a risk beyond prudent reason. Report this Post to the Staff

I would never recommend this approach for silver coins with any significant numismatic premium over melt.
