Just for fun I filled a bushel bucket by volume and filled it with 1954 to 1996 Canadian copper pennies. Lets see who can guess the closest actual weight of a bushel of pennies!! I will post the scale reading tomorrow. I was kinda surprised myself of the actual weight. Heres a clue. Wheat - 60 lbs per bushel Oats - 34 lbs per bushel Barley - 48 lbs per bushel Peaches - 50 lbs per bushel

Well, I tried using the math for this but, there are too many variables. It depends on how many of them are older and newer because of the weight change and all the dead space between coins. I'll guess around 80,000 coins and a weight of about 500 lbs. I would be more conservative except for the (probably flawed) math I did.

A bushel (by volume) of pennies should weigh around 485 pounds. spruett001 should be pretty close to the mark also.
A change in the individual coin weight won't make a big difference to the total weight of the coins in the bucket.

Quote: A change in the individual coin weight won't make a big difference to the total weight of the coins in the bucket. From what I found, that date range could be 3.24g, 2.8g or 2.5g with all being 98% copper and the same diameter. There could be a big shift lower if the vast majority are of the 2.5g variety (1982-1996). I used an average weight ignoring the two years of the 2.8g variety and rounded down. Wow, this is so dorky. I'm proud to be a part of it.

I'd say about 650 lbs, since water is 62.4 lbs a cubic ft.

I'm going to guesstimate 58,500 pennies give or take 200. And 401.097 pounds give or take a 1/2 pound
