I think this one is from down under after all it was upside down in the flip. Anyone want to tell me something about it? Is it regular issue or a commem? Edited by nohope587 12/29/2005 6:45 pm

This one is the 1927 Commemorative Florin and a nice one you have too. I would rate this one as UNC/Choice UNC (MS63?). You can even make out the three steps leading up to the Parliament House a desired feature of this florin. Mintage of 2,000,000 and BV is AUD$190 in UNC and AUD$375 in ChoiceUnc. The regular 1927 Florin is harder to come by especially in the higher grades. One in UNC will cost around AUD$850 and AUD$1,600 in Choice Unc. Here is a regular 1927 Florin.

It is an Aussie Canberra Parliment House Florin. It was issued as a comemorative to celebrate the opening of Parliment House in Canberra. Mintage is 2 million. Aprox 1.5 million of the regular style florin was also released that year. It is a reasonably common coin.

OoH Nice coins!! I think I have a regular Florin somewhere but I don't know if its 1927. They are so much nicer than their British Counterparts. My down under collection is not realy much of a collection compared to my British and Amercan holdings but I like all the coins in it.

Okay, I have to ask the value of the above florins as I am impressed with a couple of them and are they readily available? I just can't help it and these Aussies keep setting me up!!!

Terry, as they are commemorative florins it is quite easy to get them in the high/premium grades. This is as a result of people stashing them away instead of using them. Of the 4, the most expensive one is the 1934/35 Melbourne Commemorative Florin. The lowest of mintage of all Aussie Florins with an initial release of just 75,000...21,000 unsold florins were returned to the Melbourne Mint and was re-melted leaving a total issue of coins in existense at 54,000. UNC ones have been selling off on ebay between AUD$450 to AUD$550. You can buy a good GEF one for around the AUD$400.00 mark. The 1951 nad 1954 ones have book values of AUD$90.00 for a Choice Unc ones...I have seen them sold for around the 75 - 85 dollar range. Mintage of 2,000,000 for both years. Cheers...Lim

1951 and 1954 in UNC you should be able to pick them up a bit cheaper then that.
The canberra and melbourne ones and the sought after ones in UNC.
