Had high bid on this one with a couple minutes left in auction at $61. Sold for $430. Has a lot of detail left but what are your thoughts on final price? Surfaces looked a bit rough to me to be fetching that price. https://www.ebay.com/itm/A-1798-Dra...047675.l2557

I wouldn't pay this much, but maybe I'm missing something.

Environmental damage fairly evident.
If it's not a scarce variety, that is a high price.

I absolutely hate it when I have to say that. Especially because I rarely land more than 2-3 coins off my want list per month.

If that's R-1, then that's a dear price indeed, especially by EAC standards.

I think it is S-180 an R7/R6. The two die breaks on the reverse is the diagnostic. My copy of Sheldons book says only 12 known with a VF35 being the finest known. I'm not sure if his census is still accurate. No clue on value, but I'm sure it was worth it to the guy trying to track down r7s...

may be right on S-180. I have that at R-5+. Copper quotes says $450 for a scudsy G-5 which this is far past that level. Might not be as crazy of price as I thought if it is in fact S-180

As always, late to the game. S-180 XF-45 details. Good job algol and jerryc39 attributing this one! If by some chance it's not chewed up under all that green it's a 20K+ coin. I think the winner did good and has the chance at a home run IMO. I does however look corroded into the metal on the upper hair and the edge too. I would have taken a shot at this at the upside potential is there. Perhaps we'll see this coin in the future.
