Hmmm. It doesn't pass through to the reverse so I initially thought Cud. But the 9 and 3 align down the middle of the coin. Put in a vice perhaps. You also have another one on the obverse @11.45. I would guess PMD but let better minds chime in.

What does the edge look like in those spots?

It looks like it may have been damaged. Maybe from a 4-prong bezel of some sort?

That was my initial thought. Looks like there is also something going on at 12 and 6 o'clock, which would further lead me to that conclusion.

Thank goodness you were smart enough to ask BEFORE you bought it.

Shame to see that on a CSC.

Isn't this great? It's like dozens of people sharing knowledge to purchase a coin.

I also learned two new terms. CSC & CSS.

It should be CSC for Classic Silver Commemorative.

Agree with the bezel theory, and what a shame. Glad you're whole, Coco.

Yes, perhaps it was liberated from a pendant bezel or something similar.

That is too bad. It is such a good looking coin otherwise.

I think the most widely accepted as correct is CSC. I personally think it should be SCS (Silver Commemorative Series).

Good deduction by the members. Ex-bezel coin or not, it is certainly PMD of some sort.
