Poll Question
Playing around with one of my digital albums, and changed what would be the album hole for the coin. Now I can't decide which I like better. I'm asking about the dark circle around the coins. Thanks! Top row, or bottom row?

I voted top row. It looks more like a physical album and it just looks better to me overall.

It draws your eye into the coin and makes the coins stand out better.

I went with "top" but it really depends on the lighting of the coins and the degree of toning on them. Grant looks great on the top, but so does Monroe on the bottom. The other two directed my choice, and that was almost a coin toss (so to speak).

I like the top row too. I might experiment with expanding the black ring a hair more, too.

I voted bottom. IMO the top draws too much attention to the album, and away from the coin. The smoothness of the bottom, and the less dramatic shadowing, draw attention to the coin, and also look more real, less computer-drawn.

I voted for the bottom version -- it seems to be slightly ahead in the poll at this point.
My own virtual/digital 7070 has nothing showing around the coin, as long as the coin is exactly round.

Top row openings seem to "frame" the coins better.

Bottom, looks like its really mounted. Top looks like a rattler slab, not my poison.

None of the above. Both are confusing. The black on the top (for both) and the super white where the "circles" end at bottom, confuses the coins.
I would prefer an equally grey (18% :) ) tone for both. I do not mind about the holes but for the gradient shadow.

What really matters is what your customer prefers. I'm viewing it as a comparison to something physical so, the bottom row looks like coins sitting on top of a mat. The upper row looks like coins embedded in a holder/album. I do think that the top row's border could benefit from the gradient not getting so white at the bottom. That's where the "computer" aspect jumps in and you see the fine artificial line on the underside of the coins. It could be less white but still lighter than the background. If you want to get really fancy, adjust the border gradient orientation to match the lighting angle of the coin image. The 1922 Grant is pretty close to that. The Hawaiian's border would have to be rotated CCW to match.
