My favorite was the guy advertising rolls wrapped at Wells Fargo Bank in 1939 and then later in the description it says that most of the pennies are from the 40's and 50's. Now that was a bank that was ahead of it time.

Glad to see this post as I just bought several lots of unsearched wheats on ebay over the last week. I am not hunting for keys or errors, but just trying to complete a set. Coming back to the hobby after having been away since I was a kid. I'll have to post my findings when everything comes in. Already filled a 20 lb bucket with wheats that I have already gone through.

While on the subject, a recent lot I received had a few culls in them and I was wondering if there was a way to restore the date on a worn lincoln. I saw that there was a date restorer for nickels, but does any such solution exist for pennys? Some of them were from the teens but I couldn't make out the last digit due to wear.

Dick- email sent! Gara- there is nothing that I know of that will restore cent dates, try just running it under water, I have found that sometimes it is just enough to see the date, also hope to see your results from your purchases on ebay!

Okay, here are my results. First, I will preface this by saying that I was buying the unsearched wheat lots only to fill up my penny album, which, when starting these lots, was empty of wheat cents. I had no unrealistic expectations as to the likelihood of pulling early dates and was aware that, by shear odds, the vast majority of wheats in these lots would be 40-50s. Also, I was not looking to pay more than 10 cents a coin (about $15 a pound or $5 a roll). So, here we go in the order in which I received them. 1) SUPER SALE ! ONE FULL POUND Wheat cent LOT $8.99 BINhttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...370053993111Comments: I didn't actually keep a list of the dates I received on this one. I bought 5 lbs at $8.99 per lbs. Approximately 725 pennies. 90% were 40s and 50s and there was a small mix of teens, 20s and 30s in there. Seemed an unusual number of 1919s. Condition was mixed, probably in the VG-VF with perhaps a few AU's or BU's in there. No keys found. The seller seemed to artificially include a common date Indian Head cent per 1 lbs bag. At about 6 cents per coin paid, I think the overall value was fine. It also allowed me to start filling up my coin album. 2) Unsearched Wheat Cents/Pennies ALL S-Mints From Estatehttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...260243724689Comments: I bought 3 lbs at $15.95 a pound. I should have known better. Since they are all S mints, someone had obviously taken the time to search them even though they were advertised as unsearched by the seller. The seller wrote: "Most all of the coins that I saw when I would pull out a handful were 40's and 50's, but I did see some in the 30's and 20's. I can't say that I saw any in the teens, but there very well might be some in there." Out of 3 lbs of the stuff, I only pulled 3 pre-1939s (and more than a half dozen 39s. The rest were 40-50s. Approximate number of coins: 435 Average cost of coin: 11 cents each Approximate number of pre-1940s: 11 Approximate percentage of pre-1940s: 2.5% 3) Unsearched Wheat Rolls-Ultra-Low Combined Shippinghttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...130226783258Comments: This seemed like an awesome deal for unsearched wheat rolls at $3 each at the Buy It Now price. The shipping cost was awesome so I bought 50 rolls. There was a good mix of coins here as far as dates. Nothing special out of this lot but I was definitely more pleased with this lot than the previous two. Several of the coins were fairly corroded as if these were sitting in a fountain. Approximate number of coins: 2500 Average cost of coin: 6 cents each Approximate number of pre-1940s: 166 Approximate percentage of pre-1940s: 7% 4) Lot of 5 Rolls Of 50 Each - Mixed Lincoln Wheat Centshttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...270239318487Comments: Seemed like a good deal to me at $15.95 for 5 rolls. It's completely a coincidence that each lot that I receive looks better than the one before and I definitely considered this the best deal so far at the time. It had a good mix of dates and I was pleased the moment I opened the first roll. The condition varied by anywhere from G-AU/BU in there. Average cost of coin: 6.4 cents each Approximate number of coins: 250 Approximate number of pre-1940s: 29 Approximate percentage of pre-1940s: 11.6% 5) 1/2 LB. BAGS OF UNSEARCHED WHEAT PENNIEShttp://www.tomstagsale.com/servlet/...GS-OF/DetailComments: Okay, this is definitely not an ebay lot but the value seemed good at $6.95 per half pound (I was just googling for unsearched wheat lots). I bought 10 half pound bags for a total of 5 lbs. Needless to say per the stats below by this was by far the best one yet. It contained a whopping 22.5% of pre-1940s and had the best mix of dates including some semi-key dates. Some of the dates in the 40s and 50s looked BU to my eyes and there were several in the 20s and 30s that still had their original luster. I had about the same number of pre-1940s in this lot as I did in the 50 roll lot that had three and a half times as many coins. Also found 3 Indian Head cents in the lot. Nothing very valuable here but this was my best value by far. Filled up more dates in my coin album with this lot than I did searching the last 3000 coins. Approximate number of coins: 725 Average cost of coin: 9.6 cents Approximate number of pre-1940s: 163 Approximate percentage of pre-1940s: 22.5% I am a newbie to coin collecting but this was the info that I was able to pass along which is hopefully some use to others. When I have some time, I'll actually have to go through those pennies again looking for errors and really trying to pull the best condition ones for my coin album. http://www.geocities.com/mwhumphrey/wheats.xls

Garakguest-
Thanks for adding to the thread! That last one looks promising, I like that it has early 30's. I got around 80 rolls coming and a few that I already have to go through and will post my findings.
Dick,
Sorry, I tried, did you get the email fixed?

Feel cheated... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...160246364842Bought six of these. With shipping it comes out to about 15 cents each. Out of the 300 ended up with 30 dated prior to 35. None of those had mintmarks. The highest grade of any in the lot was XF with those being mostly the 56-58's which made up 2 rolls...

chrsb, I have no idea how your email could possibly be blocked, as I get everything from solicitations to marry, to world searches for my family name, as being the only living heir to a $600,000,000.00 estate! maybe I can email you, or if that doesn't work, then we can use the PM on coppercoins.com, (if you are a member). I have info that I know you would enjoy knowing, but I don't want it published as yet on the forum. I have my reasons, and will eventually explain. It is all about coins. Dick
