One last purchase. This one was $240 and a bit annoyed because I had to pay sales tax for an in-state transaction. This one has obverse wipe marks which may preclude a straight grade, but it looks high AU. I love the struck up stars and the sharp details. Your thoughts on grade and problems as always appreciated. Thanks!  A special thanks to Steve Herrman at the John Reich Collectors Society who was kind enough to attribute this coin for me as Overton-115. He writes: " Your Capped Bust half dollar is 1834 O-115 R2. The recut 0 in 50 caught my eye first after the T-I alignment. The Overton book was used for attribution. Star 1 is far from the drapery (2.75 mm per Overton), and the 0 in 50 is widely recut. Also, all 3 lines of stripe 1 and lines 2 and 3 of stripe 3 extend to the second crossbar. Additional alignments not specifically listed in Overton also match O-115." Had a slight misadventure attributing this coin. I usually use the online Capped Bust half dollar attribution guide here: http://bustieguide.com/overton.php?d=1834According to this online attribution guide there is no 1834 cbhd that has the T-I alignment of -5. But this coin exhibits T-I -5 alignment as can be seen in my enlargement here:  I reached out to the John Reich Collectors Society and Steve Herrman was kind enough to attribute it for me. Turns out that the bustie guide attributes the O-115 as T-I -4. This is wrong and the 1834 Overton - 115 does have T-I -5 alignment. The bustieguide.com reference does not reference the authors, but if anyone knows the authors, they should be contacted to update their attribution guide to correct this error. Always amazed at how helpful people in this hobby are for one another.

Beautiful coin, but I think apparent cleaning in left obverse field and on jaw/neck hold this from a straight grade.

On technical merit its a 55 for certain and great obverse strike really brings up the details. Reverse is reasonable strike as well.
But I don't think this would gain a righteous grade, simply because of the mechanical (hand) cleaning.
PCGS put a lot like this in as good for a couple years, but a year or so ago I started hearing the grumbling from dealers as people were bringing them in to sell thinking they should get full price since "PCGS Said". So if anything, PCGS has been tougher on CBHD the last year or so.
Might be a good one to try for with ANACS. There grading is right more than it is wrong.
