Hello everyone. Is it rare to find these two coins stuck together? Silver and brass together? Usually you find silver coins stuck with other silver coins. Same thing with copper coins. I been told that the Romans rarely mix those two. These coins are not cleaned up. After finding them I didn't wash them.Didn't want to split them apart, they been stuck together for almost two millenia. So I felt sorry to do that. I believe the coins are Commodus sestertius and Vitellius denarius

to the community Strange to see two different metals stuck together, but I guess anything is possible. I agree the sestertius does appear to be Commodus can't see enough detail on the denarius to say who it is.

I had one similar clump a few years back. But I believe they were all bronze.

Sometimes I go metal detecting,I borrow metal detector from a friend. And he told me in 30 years detecting he never found something like that. And he found many many coins even hoards. Two days ago I found a otto silver coin. I'm thinking of buying a detector, because every time I go detecting I find some coins. And I love history, romans, coins, artefacts etc...

Is it possible to find a hoard of mix coins containing two different metals? Denari mixed with other common copper coins. Did anyone discovered something like that? Or some golden coins mix with copper coins etc...Tried to google up, but found nothing...

While find gold is pretty slim, Base metal and silver coins are found together often. Your part of the World is coin rich, most large lots that are for sale seem to come from your region.

Yes that's true. you can make a collection here just by digging up coins.don't need to buy them. And you know that they are 100% authentic. But of course you have to know where to look for them.

Are stuck coins worth more?

While they are interesting, they are not worth as much as single coins that can be identified. Given time and a long soak in olive oil you might be able to separate them.

It's historically more of interest when they are still together as a single find, or "treasure", especially if the archaeological context is known. Furthermore, how they end up together is also important to know. Is it due to a fire, like: are they melted together when for example a house burnt down, or where they just lost or put into the ground to keep them save against invaders in some war. I case of coin hoards, read: more then two coins together, is it of the most interest to know the history of the location. The coins themselves can be worth more separated, but only if they are just corroded to each other and not melted. Furthermore, there's always the question, separation can go wrong, so cleaning them as a whole might be the best option.

Clean them up with water. I'm not sure if the denarius belongs to Vitellius. Can someone confirm? or Who is it? They are just corroded to each other, not melted.
