Looks like a candidate for a breakout and Retone. It'll never be righteous, but is a hunk of SLD.

Perhaps it was buried or in a container with another coin on top of it that left the circular toning?

A closeup of Miss Liberty's legs show some deep marks perhaps the owner purposely toned it to hide the marks? I've never seen adjustment marks on a SLD like that. On a side note, that 1873 VF-20 is the only coin coming up for auction I like.

I think it is a good looking SLD.

Quote: I've never seen adjustment marks on a SLD like that. I've never seen adjustment marks on a sld. The 73's ok. I've noticed this trend on heritage where a bunch of details coins come up for auction after a big show. Perhaps rejects that didn't qualify for the show?

An interesting look. Not something I need (too high end for my 7070), but I like it for some reason.

I think that happened relatively quickly for a toning process. A good example of how a TPG will designate toning that final as ED. Like coinlover1899, I'm curiously attracted to it.

In that era adjustment marks were done with a file on the EDGE of the planchet pre-strike. Any marks would be hidden in the reeding. Those marks on the legs are NOT adjustment marks.
