Another nice early cheap Vickie for the collection. I now have about 20 of these Large cents from 1859-1919 so I might as well get the missing slots.

I noticed after receiving this coin that the last two digits of the date seem to be repunched, or perhaps slightly doubled to the northeast. Is this the so-called "1888/88" variety? There is also what appears to be extra metal or a die chip above the left upper loop of the last 8 in the date.

Color is a bit darker in hand. Surfaces are smooth, no porosity.

As I posted in the old 2015 thread, you will find 1, 2, or all 3 8's repunched ... some with large offsets. The real scarce ones are the ones that have NO digits repunched. There are too many combinations to even qualify any as noted "varieties", but it's fun to get as many different as you can. I'd say yours in F-15, maybe VF-20 on a good day.

Gives me another fun thing to look for when searching the low-budget sales.

Nice example. I'm thinking F-15, outside shot at VF-20.
