I got this coin in France, near Lyon. A bit damaged but it's celebrating a very important thing in Roman history. The final capture of Egypt. Not longer a protected state but a part of the Roman Empire.

Octavian Denarius. Uncertain Eastern Mint
Obv: bare head right
Legend: CAESAR DIVI F COS VI
Minted: 28-27 BC.
Rev: Crocodile right
Legend: AEGYPTO CAPTA,
Ref: RSC 4.

Even as a damaged counterfeit, that is a heck of a coin!

Interesting to see another fouree from the region. I wonder if this was a precursor to the Limes denarus?

I have collected quite a number of roman fourrees over the years. Also a couple of republic and late republic. Like a Venus type from Caesar. I always learned that these were issued every time the empire had a little less silver then other years
