Coop, I remember the story about that Wheat cent mule. It's still debatable wheither the coin is real or not. They even said they had trouble selling it at first because of its questionable authenticy.

Nobody wants to find a 1959 Wheatie more than me; it'd be a birth year coin for me and that would allow the creation of a Birth Year Set nobody could ever match (except 1959).

I do not consider the known mule to be real. Just one? Nope, I don't think so. Not even deliberate surreptitious Midnight Mintage by an employee would stop at one, and I'd like to see modern noninvasive investigative technology applied to that one known coin. It's been fifteen years; XRF, for instance, has matured in that time.

How did this turn onto a 1959 Wheat cent discussion?

All I see is a 2014 ED Zincoln

Jack J , I guess it's like opening a can of worms, they tend to crawl everywhere but the hook !

I just looked at pics of the 59 mule. What hits me as strange is the direction of the die abrasions are at just about the exact same angle on both the obverse and reverse
