I am assuming that it is possible for Proof sets from these years to have a mixture of both types of coins with the filled or clear "S". I am correct in that assumption? Is it uncommon to have all one or the other?

Yes, you can have a mixture of both. Having a Proof set with all the Type II mint marks on all the coins in the set commands a considerably higher premium in the original sealed set. Higher that the total of the same in singles added up. Of course, condition concerning toning, milk spots, fingerprints, cameo and contact marks, sharpness of mintmarks ( PF65 to PF70 ) on each of the coins are also factors.

I have found that many of the original sets containing all Type 2 coins are hazed and attractive.
