Does anyone think that just because companies have a grader spend about a minute on your coin and then someone else checks it out finally ending with Quality Control, they never make mistakes?
I believe companies look for consistency because that's their bread and butter but when a company grades hundreds of thousands of coins each year; they have to depend on a lot of employees who need trained and really only get experienced after some years.Plus regardless of experience,as long as humans do the grading, well they are going to have some bad days, too.Or it's Friday late and those last few coins needing to be graded are just bum rushed.
If you have coins as a hobby, that's fine. Your coins will be encapsulated with a professional companies logo, it's not like you intend on selling anyway.
But if you are a person who likes the excitement of finding a beautiful or unique coin which subsequenly will make to auction, then you may be up river without a paddle. One grade can make the difference of hundreds and sometimes, even thousands of dollars.
Oh yeah, I posted a posting mentioning a1l 1982 Lincoln SM DT Zinc reverse doubling, I submitted it to be graded and according to customer service 3 graders who by consensus said it was machine doubled.
I sent 10 coins, the one I mentioned and a couple 1972 Lincoln also doubled. Among the was a 1972-s DDO. It was doubled beautifull.I will post the picture soon.

I agree with what your saying. Most, if not all the grading companies, do offer regrade services.
I guess if a person felt they got burned on a grade, dramatically reducing the value, a regrade is an option.

to CCF. In the future post coin here on CCF before you send to a TPG. We might be able to save you some money.

NGC, PCGS as most consistent with ANACS closely following and CAC generally accepted in that order are superior to all but a few specialists for grading.

If you are attempting to put together a superior set in almost any field those services are helpful. Yes, on very rare occasions they make mistakes.

But even with a correct technical grade their are huge price differences even when comparing same TPG for same grade.

That's the eye appeal factor that isn't part of a technical grade and which is more subjective. If you believe grade = price, it doesn't work that way.

People who send in their coin usually have a higher grade in mind. Buyers usually grade coins 2 grades below what coin is. So it is often a surprise one way or the other when you get your coins back.
