Several of the letters in the Reverse UNITED STATES do not match the normal letters. Doesn't look like PSD, seems like maybe a die that had significantly aged especially since the errors are closer to the rim of the coin?

I think you're right - but those T's look like palm trees! Very strange. Might have been some polishing compound/grease in the die.

Anybody ever seen anything like this before?

The die is in the VLDS die state when your coin was struck. Just a very old die working past retirement.

Now: How did it get to look like that on the 'T's? Keep in mint that die wear flows toward the nearest rim. So when the die was starting to break down, the under sides of the 'T' started to flow towards the rim. Thus that is why it looks that way.

Coop is correct. Your coin was struck in a VLDS and was working way past it's retirement.

That's almost creepy looking. I think I would keep that one just for being so bad and a great example of VLDS.
