I initially passed this off as Machine Doubling until I looked at it closer. The E might be Machine Doubling and the W looks fine except something at the top. Most of the rest of the letters have addition metal to the northeast of each letter. Just notices a blob on Washington's chin. Also noticed that the letter's are worse as the get closer to the rim. This may just be simply die wear and maybe this is another VLDS (very late in the life of the working die) coin.

Coop, thanks for the analysis. I had no idea there were so many different things that can happen to a coin! Watching your youtube clips are fascinating!

Well I feel that Machine Doubling causes other things other than affecting after the strike. Different forms of Machine Doubling1. classic Machine Doubling. 2. Push doubling. 3. Ejection doubling 4. Split plating I feel is also caused by Machine Doubling? (Still a theory) 5. Tilted dies I'm wondering also it this is caused by Machine Doubling creating a fin and mark on the rims of the coins. (Another theory) 6. Multi-directional Machine Doubling. (MD is more than just one direction) Single direction MD: Multi-directional: Not just in one direction. So basically anything that is caused after the strike that alters coins, I blame on Machine Doubling.

I have many images. Sometimes a though will come and guess what? I have images to show what thought passed through my mind. I still have images prepared that I've never used. When I see something interesting, I save them and edit them. Then later I may put some into one image, or like this thread complete a thought with images. Always better to see something that be told something. Seeing has a more lasting memory for our minds. CoopHome : Machine Doubling Types
