My uncle identified it as defective planchet and I thought it was a die crack initially.

Then I looked closer and it seems as though it is recessed versus raised as it would be in a die crack.

Is this truly a defective planchet?

Looks like it to me, a lamination issue.

I would say it is a lam. The dirt and crud accumulation around the raised design elements is not as intense as it is at the anomaly. This speaks to a recessed area.

Thanks everyone. I'm getting better at identifying things yet with so many varieties of coin errors, whew! LOL!

Soak it in Acetone to get rid of the dirt so you can see the lam better.

I see, the lam is on the coin, not the reverse ( the coin is on the lam) Thanks all, I'll clean it with acetone and repost a pic.
