I have 2 Sacagawea 2000 P Dollar coins that appear to have an extra rim line around the outer edge of the the rim on the front side of the coin. One has this "extra rim" line that goes around approximately 75% of the rim on the front side of the coin. The other has this "extra rim" line around about 33% of the front side rim. Has anyone heard of this condition being one of the documented errors on the Sacagawea 2000 P? I cannot find any information despite much research.

Probably happens if edge lettering is added after the strike happens. On the Proof coins the edge and the faces are all struck at the same time. The business strikes may have a different process. Adding the edge devices later.

Unless I'm mistaken, the 2000-P Sacagawea dollar has a plain edge. Although, I do agree with potential edge-lettering effects on later coins that have it. From what I've read, it is added post-strike in a process similar to upsetting and for business strikes only.

This looks more like an effect from a slightly misaligned die or off-center strike.

Can you post full-coin pics of both sides (obverse/reverse)?

Thanks spruett001. I think you are right on the mis-aligned die mark theory since it continues concentrically around 75% of the outer edge of one coin and 33% on the other coin. I don't have the capability to photograph the whole coin at a magnification that shows the rings. I only saw them when examining all my 2000 P Sacagaweas for errors with my 10X magnifying glass. How can I find out? Do I take them to a place like a coin show and get someone there to look at them, or a coin collector shop? And, since both are pretty dirty, should I clean them, or leave them as is? Thank you for any insight you can offer!
