Keep in mind the device are normal sized. The area in question is showing an alteration. If it were a doubled die, it would be raised as much as the other devices showing a spread the same height. Kind of like this:
DDO-Or-MD-On-This-1998-LMC?

When the coin is normal the devices are much smaller that a doubled die:
DDO-Or-MD-On-This-1998-LMC?

So the affected area should be the same height, not one higher and one lower. Between the spread of the devices you might see a lowering, but not clear down the fields different.
