It looks like MD to me. The die bounced a little, smashing the edges of the devices it had just created.

Shoot I thought for sure the 1980 was double date I'm still learning lingo. The n is from my oldest 1926 yes it's a small collection and I'm just learning. I never realized how much there is to know it's very interesting. I'm afraid I'll miss a real find so I tend to start seeing things on every cent. Lol well it's a numbers game I'll keep trying. Thank you for your expertise!

Mikey Let me tell you how I did things when I first started searching for variety and error coins. I looked at every cent I could get my hands on. I saw lots of possible candidates. If I thought something was even remotely likely, I put that coin in a separate jar to research again later. I kept looking at the comments on this board and would go back to my research jar. As time went along, I kept rejecting some and adding others. Now, doubling and repunched mint marks are apparent to me (most of the time...) Don't worry about missing something. Just put it in the jar and keep looking them over as you learn what to look for. And keep asking your questions here. I think everyone likes to see the progress of a new Hunter!

Thank you!! That's sorda how I have been doing it. I have a notebook and each page has it's own year and what to look for. I pick a year each night and go through them sorting out hopefuls in a separate container. I guess I gotta focus on what is actually an error. I thought for sure I had mad die clash? Back on the front and doubling on ear etc. Well I'm an optimist I'll keep looking and one of these days...lol ty again

I'm not saying your 88 doesn't have a clash. There are a couple of guys on the board who can do overlays to find out for you. I'm not one of those guys though

You can click on them to see what they are, no harm to be done. As far as thanking others, we usually communicate in each thread. Also for better response, you should start a new thread for each coin. Since you've already posted this one, here's an overlay. You'll need to adjust your lighting for a clearer picture though.
