I think there are several things going on here. The letters and numbers appear very thin and I'm thinking die polishing created that (and the lower part of the T was completely polished away). There also seems to to be either Die Deterioration Doubling (consistent with a die that was polished so much) and/or Machine Doubling.

The mintmark shows a little MD (seen in upper left corner of loop) and also split-plate doubling and zinc rot has begun.

That's what I see but, wait for others' observations.

Actualy yungin' those WERE the Greezer caste in my High School in the western suburbs of Chicago mid 60's, looked exactly like my photo. Yours looks like the Hollywood imagined version of the 70's. We had Greezer, Freaks, Jocks, Nerds and the Oddballs. I would associate with #1 for free beer, #2 for free pharma #3 for the nicer looking girls, #4 for homework answers and still danced to my own tune...when I was Vertical...

It was actually the early '80s.

The Outsiders is one of the books that I still remember really enjoying. I don't remember the film so much but, it surely is my favorite movie featuring Patrick Swayze.

Well, I guess not much changed over the years between our H.S. experiences. I would have probably fallen in the "nerd" or "oddball" category, except I didn't give homework answers.
