Folks, since months a punch of penny coins are sitting on my desk. They are now my Thanksgiving sorting job I'm not that familiar with penny coins but I got some books from our library. Do you have any general recommendations for what I have to watch out?

Looks like fun! I would suggest going here: http://goccf.com/t/296596...and downloading Coin IDing For Dummies Volume 2 by Crazyb0. Near the end, he has a very nice list of what to look for while searching Lincoln cents. If you are unfamiliar with the terms, just ask or use the CCF Glossary. While you're there, download Vol. 1 as well. You will learn quite a bit, I'm sure.

Thanks for sharing! Looks VERY helpful to me.
I'll let you know if I find a valuable sleeper in the coin lot.

Unless your planning starting a set of those, I suggest you simply start by removing everything from 83 and up. That should make almost all that's left worth at least looking at. Then put aside all Wheat Back Cents to be looked at more closely later.

Thanks for welcoming me. It was fun but I make slow progress. Probably, I'll share some impressions the next day. At least I got a War Nickel out of another lot browsing approx. 250 coins to get one :-)

There are folks here that have gotten skunk on 1-3 (sometimes more) $500 boxes of halves. That's a 1000 coins per box. And in no way am I trying to compare boxes of halves to what you are searching! Just trying to let ya know that IMO, 1 out of 250 ain't to shabby compared to 0 out of a couple of thousand or more. Almost forgot,
