Looks like someone's been playing with the gravers and some nic-o-tone. I think this is post strike and not a planchet error. I just can't see how a gash that big would let ANY of the coin strike properly. First thing that is going to fill is the the BIG GASH. The 1/2 of a hole on the rim is just wrong. Looks like the Hobo nickel guys have been working copper. If you started with a fat planchet say at the max. 3.11 plus .13 ( allowed variance) then add another 10% just because and you now have a planchet that is around 3.3 this would not be out of the norm and I'm sure that leaves lots of room to carve. Also I think this coin has seen the wood press. The coats to flat with the wrong details. Same with the Memorial. The Doctor that worked this guy over looks to be pretty good.
