I am hopeful that commems or another board member here will have some kind of information on this piece. Who made them, how many were made, rarity, etc.

This piece is a little smaller than a nickel and about 3/16" thick. During my online search I came across a clear glass example imaged here, http://www.tlcc.info/exhibit/2012/T..._201205.html

If anyone has any information about these please let me know. Thank you!

Ty

Try thishttps://www.realorrepro.com/article...ressed-Glass

According to this it was a marketing scheme by a glass company to honor the US mint, the gubmint cried foul, counterfeiting and had to stop. These were tourist stuff at the Columbian expo! You have a production rarity, mintage(?) unknown but "sought after by numismaticists"

I've been seriously trying to find one of these for 3-4 years. During that time I've seen it listed on ebay one time for a buy it now for $800. It was already sold a few hours after it was posted.

Heritage, Stacks, and Great Collections have not listed one during that period.

Does anyone else out there have any more info on this coin? It fascinates me and I'd love to know more.

Commems or anyone else out there ever seen one of these, or know exactly where they came from, who made them etc?

The article linked above gives some good info but it really doesn't seem to answer any questions about the coin posted.
