I found a VG8 PCGS Bust Dollar for sale for around a grand on another forum. PCGS did not note any details or designation on the slab. The seller notes "Adjustment marks on Reverse for accuracy". In my limited research I have found that the marks could be deep "bag" marks, adjustment marks (to adjust weight), and roller marks. The lines are limited to the reverse involving the large eagle and appear to be somewhat parallel. How does this affect the value, collectibility, etc?

Looks like an Airtight holder or something, not a PCGS holder. Assuming this is a different coin. Anyway, if those are adjustment/file marks, they don't bother me that much, especially on a well circulated coin. Not sure how they affect value.

@man2004, this old thread (pointed to in the CCF glossary) may be of some interest:

I don't have a huge collection of classic US silver coins, but the presence of adjustment marks doesn't bother me either.

That one looks pretty deep for an adjustment mark. Adjustment marks don't bother some people but I personally would avoid them. There are plenty of Bust dollars out there without those marks that I would wait until I found the right coin for me. Agree with edweather that the coin shown is not in a PCGS holder.

A grand for that is no bargain. Add $500 and you get into the VF-20 to 30 range, probably 1799, and a ton better looking.

Overpriced by about $500.

In my opinion those are NOT adjustment marks.

You will rarely catch me disagreeing with Conder about anything; however the deep diagonal marks are 100% adjustment marks!! There is a tiny almost vertical scratch across the neck that is near the upper end of the ADJUSTMENT MARKS.
