Thanks guys. It has only been recently that I started collecting what appeals to my eye instead of filling holes in a book.
It's my wife's fault, she says stuff like "They all look the same but with different dates, red cents are boring no matter how much they cost"

I am currently filling some albums. I contend that an album, particularly once that last hole is filled, is very eye-appealing  But I know what you mean. I also have my things I buy that aren't parts of sets, just stand-alone beauties! Edited by thisistheshow

TNG: I might have asked this question before, my memory is only so-so  so excuse me if you have answered this already. In your opinion are there any modern equivalents of the expositions memorialized (depicted? not sure of the right word) on many of your medals, and if so what are they? Edited by thisistheshow

Being on a limited budget I ran into the problem of only having the key dates left in Barbers and Morgans to go. I started with large cents and Seated dimes but super low grade was all I could afford. I found that somewhat pointless because the premium above the silver is high, resale low and they aren't very special looking to me. |

I don't know if there are medals for recent and upcoming events but I found a list of Worlds Fairs and Expos here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World..._expositionsand there are some scheduled. None in the US though. The more recent ones don't interest me numismatically nor would I personally want to attend. It's the history that I like and the medals are actually a small and artistict part of it I can hold in my hand. I've passed up many Worlds Fair medals post World War II that were held in the US. Last one in the US was 1984 New Orleans. The United States has had several citizen efforts directed at bringing a World's Fair to the US in these cities and the themes. Houston - "Inspired Innovation" New York City - "Showcasing the World" San Francisco - "Interculture: Celebrating the World's Cultures while Creating New Ones through Interaction and Exchange." Las Vegas - "The future of my future" |

My albums are all Washington quarters so I know I can complete them, as there are only two key dates and my albums are all different types of circulated. |

Edthelorax - I must admit I agree with your wife. Guess that's why I am more of a type collector. My Birth Year 1946 gave me great enjoyment until I started breaching the $100 mark. Then I went on to other areas. I hope this isn't irritatingly off topic :)

A patriotic WWI French postcard and the coin which inspired it. Photo tells the story. In 1917, you would have needed three of these 5-centime coins for the 15ces. postage stamp (unless you wrote less than 5 words, in which case, 2 would buy you a 10ces. stamp to use.) There are easily over 3000 known varieties of French postcards from WWI era, not including the silk embroidered handmade cards!
