This
SPOKANE INTERSTATE FAIR medal might turn out to be pretty good. I cannot find a sale on
ebay in the past sales link, nor can I find a reference to it online including the online medals listing site.
From a web page by KHQ broadcasting I did find a history of the fair and have extracted pertinent info:
1890 - The Spokane Industrial Exposition.
1894 - Relocated to an agricultural implement warehouse on Riverside Avenue and renamed the "Spokane Fruit Fair".
1901 - Relocated to where the Playfair Racetrack stood for many years and reorganized under the name Spokane Interstate Fair. In 1930, the Fair closed its gates due to financial problems.
1943 - A three-day Spokane County Fair was opened at an area on Appleway at Dishman.
1944 - Another Fair was held in 1944 at the Playfair location. In 1945, the search for a new site began.
1952 - The Spokane Interstate Fair opened at its current 97-acre location on the corner of Broadway Avenue and Havana Street.
1999 - Spokane County Interstate Fair became the new name of the Fair thus acknowledging the ownership of the Fair by Spokane County.
The medal design is deep relief on the front featuring a woman in what looks like pioneer dress, standing in front of an open mail box and holding a piece of mail with the text
"It's for you!" overhead. The back side is flat, and plain.
Medal is 1.25 inches in diameter. I think it is brass as there is no discernable gilt wear.
I found an image on another web page with a caption relating to Amelia Earhart and clicking the image took me to an aviation page. Further I found some printed materials with a similar graphic image, but now I can't find the darn thing.
