1933 Hoover Exhibit Century Of Progress Exposition Medal

The obverse of this medal depicts a poor woman being freed of the drudgery of housecleaning by some angelic figure. She is so grateful as she goes to her knees with the old broom laying on the floor beside her.
No better way to win her love than to give her a Hoover for Christmas!

The vacuum cleaner business was booming in the early 1920's up until the 1960's.
Sure, they still sell them but not like in the old days.
If you're as old as me, you would remember the occasional door to door salesmen who would call on mother while dad was off at work. Encyclopedia salesmen, The Fuller Brush man, Life Insurance Agents would be showing up, but none was more exciting than the sweeper sellers.

Hoover was a household name and most every house had one. I liked the ones with the headlights.

What a way to a housewife's heart! Hoover was no marketing dummy being a major exhibitor at the 1933 Chicago Century of Progress Exposition or World's Fair either.

These women surround a 1930's Hoover as if it were reading them poetry.

Re the Hoover medal, adding a nice example from ebay took a while, seemed this comes with a range of quality detail mintings.

I'm still in shock a bit that I was able to acquire this Saranac Store Card token. Started pursuing a Michigan Towns and Cities collection (55 tokens) about 20 years ago. The deeper I got in to It I realized that the Saranac example was probably not going to happen. One came up for sale recently and t decided to go after it. Had to sell my proof Two Cent set and some other pieces to come up with the money. Here it is, my white whale, a MI 865A-3a, R-9.
