All the Franklin Mint medals I have are stamped on the edge, Bronze, Sterling or .999. I don't know of any non silver ones they made except pewter and bronze. Now I certainly could be wrong. I'll try to find out more. That little F under FUN TIME on the reverse is for Franklin Mint. and Thanks for the links. Yes I saw those medals and they don't do much for me at all except tell me there are different reverses. I am quite tickled with the one I got. Quick update: 143208278723  Is a similar Midland Empire State Fair medal also with the Franklin Mint mark. The seller says it is Copper Nickel and that's news to me but I imagine there are other annual issues with different designs for this event. I found another Lewis & Clark like yours too. TNG - thank you for the reply. Here is a scan from the bottom of the card which held my bronze version of L&C. Note text with medal metal and quantity minted:  According to Wiki: Nickel silver, Maillechort, German silver, Argentan, new silver, nickel brass, albata, alpacca, is a copper alloy with nickel and often zinc. The usual formulation is 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc. Nickel silver is named due to its silvery appearance, but it contains no elemental silver unless plated. Solid sterling silver 2500 Solid Franklin Bronze 1600 Solid Nickel Silver 100 Specimen quality, 10000 mint quality Also that the edge is reeded - 280 reeds I'm not clear what the Hallmarked reference is unless that's the Franklin Mint "F" |

It looks like you have two now, a bronze on the card and a loose "Nickel Silver" mint quality. Apparently, aside from the vast number of sets they minted, they must have minted medals for organizations at their request. Here's a set I put together of the Steamship Historical Society's "special order" and posted about here. My green easel carded medal says it is Bronze Proof. http://goccf.com/t/301479&whichpage=12#2606872As far as the other medals that were produced for collectors, the edges are all stamped. Maybe "Hallmark" isn't the right word to use, but an edge of a Franklin Mint medal often looks like this.  See that it was marked sterling - copyrighted - ( F with what looks like a leaf on each side for Franklin Mint ) - 78 for 1978 year and I don't know what that last one is, P for proof? I don't know, maybe the code for the guy operating that press? Your green card shows an F at the very bottom right hand side too after No 133.

TNG - thank you for the edge view. The L&C silver-nickel is going back today. At a mintage of 10000 I can be particular. :) On a whim I did buy this lot of 39 Franklin Mint Bronze green-card medals. It appears the bronze medals were minted in half (+/-) the quantity of the sterling which sell for lots more because of the $10 +/- silver content.  Edited by 999fine

This MONTANA TERRITORY CENTENNIAL commemorative medal arrived yesterday. Has number 1041 stamped (?) top reverse side. A 1964 issue, prices (at least asking prices) seem crazy on this especially slabbed. My example shows light wear in the MS58+ range which suits me fine. It has nothing to do with my main Fair and Exhibition interest, but it was too attractive for me to remain draconian in my thinking. Wish I could focus...  Edited by 999fine

These 2 Hemisfair medals, silver and bronze arrived today. Both are whizzed. Both are going back to seller. The pics sure looked nice in the listings  I sure get tired of making returns.  |

I picked this token up over Memorial Day weekend at Pearl Harbor. The inscriptions are "WWII / Valor in the Pacific / National Monuments / Pearl Harbor / Hawai'i" and "USS Oklahoma Memorial". It was very powerful to see this area where so many died.   "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."

On the same visit, I also picked up this token relating to the USS Arizona. The inscriptions are: "U.S.S. Arizona Memorial/ Honoring Those Who Served / Pearl Harbor Hawaii" and "Pearl Harbor / December 7, 1941". I was a little bummed that the memorial was closed due to repairs on the dock, but we got a view of this important area from the ferry regardless.   "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."
