Gustaf Dalen was a Swedish Nobel laureate, industrialist, engineer and inventor. His 1912 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded for his "invention of automatic regulators for use in conjunction with gas accumulators for illuminating lighthouses and buoys." Dalen's "sun valve"-- a flow control valve that automatically shut off gas flow during daylight -- was the key component of the Dalen light used in lighthouses from the 1900s through the 1960s. The reliability of the sun valve was first rate: When a lighthouse near Stockholm, initially set up in 1912, was electrified in 1980, it was determined the sun valve had worked continuously without overhaul. Dalen was blinded by an acetylene explosion in 1912 yet he remained in control of his company- AGA - until his death in 1937. Commisioned by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences [ Injenjörsvetenskapsakademien or "IVA" ] for its annual gathering in 1982, the obverse and reverse designs of the 44mm bronze medal are presented as concentric rings and in the case of the obverse, the high relief achieves a 3D printed effect. The reverse presents a cross-sectional view of an AGA lighthouse with Dalen's invention, the sun valve, located in the middle: The medal was designed by L. Eklund & Y. Möller and produced by metal manufacturer Sporrong, a Swedish firm in business since 1666.

A 1959 token issued by the Trustee Savings Bank in the UK. It depicts Daniel Defoe, author of Robinson Crusoe. I imagine these tokens were given away to encourage young savers:
