There are 8 in a set. http://goccf.com/t/301479&whichpage=46#2733335 I then discovered the 4 1948 Spanish American War theme medals which are a lot harder to obtain. I did get a gilt nickel Sampson medal but was a little disappointed it was a different finish. Then in this post, I luckily found and bought two of the other 4. The Maine and the Dewey so called dollars are shown in this link . http://goccf.com/t/301479&whichpage=48#2739941 This left me to get the 1948 c.smith Roosevelt-San Juan Hill My 1954 Topps non sports card with related theme. and the ( normal ) 1948 c.smith Admiral Sampson which I just got and believe now, I have a very nice complete set of all these c.smith medals. 8 1947 and 4 1948. and a spare set of 1947 in very nice condition. I don't think there are any others however, I have seen some of these in different compositions. Especially the Linbergh, Byrd, Pony Express and Edison medals in bronze. Will I go there? I don't know. Probably not. These two were graded by NGC as MS67 and I just had to have a normal Sampson! MontCollector Pillar of the Community United States 2403 Posts	Posted 08/23/2018 10:35 pm Won this in a recent contest Spruett held. It is called a Numistamp. These were designed by and minted for Mort Reed. A well known author of numismatic books, as well as a former illustrator and columnist for Coin World magazine. In the early 70's Mort Reed created the Numistamp Series of US coins. The one above is the 1798 Flowing Hair Heraldic Eagle Dime. These measure 2 1/4" x 1 3/8" and weighs 51 grams. Pretty chunky piece of metal composed mostly of pewter with a nickel (I think) plating on the front side. These can be purchased for very little money and would make a fun addition to anyone's US type set collection. Not sure how many types there are, but I have seen over 50 different ones. There were also brass and copper planchets used to make these so called dollars which would make a set of 4 different ones to collect if I go that way. I'm half way there! I am not sure about this, but I believe the Numistamp is silver-plated copper. Some high points with rubbing show a copper color underneath and the edges showed toning as if silver. The composition was supposed to mimmick the original, and silver-plating would have served that. I am wondering where you got "pewter?"
