I was going through some change and came across this nickel. The word united is misspelled on the reverse.Can anyone give any info on this coin? Thank you

@peachy01, can you please post a close up image of just the two letters? I suspect that your coin was struck properly, but the staining or toning has been selectively removed (perhaps accidentally) to give the appearance of a mis-spelling.

It's certainly interesting looking, but it is just gunk blocking out parts of the letters. The I looks like a T but the upper left is actually the upper right serif of the N and the upper right is actually the upper left serif of the T.

I bet if you cleaned it up, it would show normally.
