Hi everyone,

I just got back into working on this project. I'm attempting to collect all 64 Buffalo nickels for under $64 dollars. Inspired by carnold744's post here http://goccf.com/t/200852

Here is what I have so far. The recent pics, of individual coins, are 2 new ones I acid dated today.

Tough to take a picture of something that isn't really visible in hand, but it's the best I could do without an expensive coin shooting set up.

The first is pretty clearly a 1915-D, my 2nd of this date. Yay!

The second is a Type II 1913 D or S. Please let me know your opinion below! Also yay!!

According to my up to date spreadsheet, I now have 41 of the 64 (62%). My total cost so far is $6.12, which is an average of $0.1492 each, or 15 cents. That leaves me with $57.88 or $2.516 per coin.

I have found some while CRH which I count as .05 for a cost. My father gifted me one, so that was free. The rest are coming from a bulk buy of buffaloes that I purchased and sold off the rest.

I then purchased a couple hundred dateless nickels and have been slowly acid dating them. I took about a year off of this project as I finished up different things in my life but now I'm settled and ready to go deeper.

Also, I'm not sure what I should do with the extra ones that I find dates on. Would CCF be interested in them? ebay? I'm not sure what an asking price would be, but I feel like 50% of the Red Book G-4 grade price would be fair? Any/all input is welcome.

If you have any questions about my process or progress feel free to ask. I'll update this post as I continue to find more. Feel free to subscribe.

Nice job so far!

The 1913 looks more like an S to me but, the pic could be better.

It will be fun to see how you handle those "hard to get" Buffalos within your budget.

It's really hard to tell so far in my pictures or in hand. I might let it soak more. It's tough for sure, but still a great find because the Red Book says those are one of the harder I'll have to find.

I think it is a D mintmark, but better pictures will surely help.

It is preferred that you upload them here for posterity, especially after the Photobucket fiasco.

Also, update on a few more coins!

I recovered a 1920-D and a 1914-P to go to the collection and a 1913-S which I hadn't marked down in the spreadsheet I keep earlier.

44/64 nickels down for a total of $6.65 (15.1 cents a piece). Remaining budget: $57.35

Another date revealed! 1918P added to the collection. I'm surprised I hadn't found that in yet but it's nice to find it.

I'm having a hard time telling if some of much 191x dates are a 3 or 5. Both are good dates though.
