Somethings not right about that coin. What sticks out to me is Miss Liberty's head seems tilted too far foward. Also look how deformed the bottom 2 stars are in front of her.The eagles beak on the reverse looks to large and not quit open enough either for the small letter version. Seller has an 1834 capped bust half dollar that does not look quit right either.

Yeah, I'm not a collector of that series yet that auction raises numerous flags, such as the surface quality, the lettering size on the reverse (small letter version?), the size of the eagle and various details such as those bulbous leading edges in the wings. The slightly off-focus photo raises my suspicion level too. Still, that doesn't stop people from bidding!

I thought the lettering on the reverse was suspect but I found one similar to this. The attached picture is NGC certified MS64 and sold in February for $6,325. Bottom line for me is ebay + Bad Picture + Ungraded Expensive Coin = Stay Away Image: bustquarter.jpg78.85 KB Image: bustquarter2.jpg73.79 KB

"THE COIN YOU SEE IS THE COIN YOU WILL RECEIVE" That's what I would be afraid of.

Ericnh, that's an incredibly bright, toning-free coin for 175+ years! Obviously original, and even in that high state of preservation, there's no way to replicate that surface. I'll bet the contrast would be more apparent if that "AU/BU" auction coin was photographed properly.

You would think that if someone had such a nice example of a scarce coin they would take better pics. All the more reason to stay away. This person sells enough coins to know what they got, something ain't right.

Regarding that same seller, check out this other auction. What do you suppose is going on with those stars--a normal strike? and look at these fields: This one may be obvious too!

every other picture I see doesn't have the beak that looks like the one in the auction I posted so I think this coin is a fake and someone is going to get taken on it

Bryan, If they are fake the seller has been selling a lot of them for a lot of money. If you go back through their feedback you will see all of this type coins they have sold to sellers with very high feedback count. I'm at a real loss with this one.

Nope. At a very quick glance I could see how the obverse might pass, but when I saw that bird...heck no!

I suspect people are buying things blind without really knowing the coin. This realized $427, and I'm just as skeptical here.

You should look at this sellers feedback. About 1/3 of all their feedback is from two people. from a jrm and a cabell That throws up signs that they are trying to boost feedback also, that is another sign of a dishonest seller.

All I can say for sure is Maggie needs to adjust her white balance! Eagerly awaiting the next installment of "photography 101 advanced class" BTW, CHDK is supposed to work with the A 650is too!

Both those coins just don't look right. "If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and smells like a duck, it is probably a duck." I think this duck flew in recently, from China. It is so sad as these folks could be supporting good dealers with their $$$.
