Albums:-

Anyone have any experience with these albums? I am looking to buy an album for my State Quarter collection but I am not satisfied with the blue whitman albums or the harris albums just like them... My concern with the one pictured above is that its made by Harris and from what I hear its a pain in the butt to get coins into the holes in Harris albums...

I think in that specific album your showing right there it is designed not to have pre-cut slots like the low-end harris albums. I think thats the plastic film kind which lets you see both sides of the coin. Theres still pre-cut coins holes but, and I don't know this for a fact, I would assume there would be a little more lee-way in the tightness of the holes because the coins are physically held into the folder with plastic sheets, so there would be no need for tight coin holes.

But I haven't bought this album myself. The description above was from just browsing the folders at the store.

I took a look at this album at a Barnes and Noble in my area a couple of months ago when I wanted to upgrade from Whitman folders.

In my opinion they didn't seem to be constructed well. It seemed overly "floppy" to me.

I then purchased a Dansco album for my State Quarters and I loved it. I ended up getting a Nickle, Mercury dime and Presidential dollar albums that are Dansco. I really enjoy them.

I use Dansco as well and love them. As for the price being higher, you get what you pay for!

When I first began thinking about coin albums this is the first one I bought for my Jefferson's because it was cheaper and readily available at my local B&N book store.

Then I heard Dansco album also had a 'slipcase' whereas these don't for extra protection. Also No extra 'pages' are available or made for the US Mint albums. I've never even seen these to also holds the Proofs issues which I also wanted to expand to.

Now my choice is all the way Dansco. Unfortunately, they don't have these for Canadian cents nor the President's Spouse medals, but I've come up with an idea to buy the Dansco # 7107 which is for 'cents' but has no labeling and that works for me. For the Spouse medals I'll just match the mm of the medal to whatever page it will fit (34mm) with a 'blank album' and continue from there.

Good call!

I have a couple of "miscellaneous" Dansco albums that I made using blank cent, nickel, dime, and quarter pages.

I use one of them to keep the more recent moderns as they come out. My regular Lincoln, Jefferson, and Roosevelt albums were full and I could not add pages without having to replace the binder.

The other is for my Indian, Buffalo, and Mercury coins (a work in progress).

It kind of bugs me when people say the Dansco albums are too pricey. Do they cost more than the others? Sure. But 1 coin can be worth many times the $20 spent on the album. Even if you are completing a Jefferson nickel collection, your coins will be worth more than the album. I say if you value your collection, even if it is just "sentimental value" your money would be a well spent investment with the Dansco albums.

You can add pages if there is still room in the binder! Many of the "ongoing series" albums are sold with a binder that will accommodate at least one (if not not more) additional page(s).

All of my albums are now "maxed out" for their binder size; I cannot fit any more pages in them. If I want to add pages, I would either have to replace the binder with a larger size or get a separate binder for them to make a second album (which is what I did). I get satisfaction knowing that an album is "done", which is why I opted to do it this way.

Personally, I use a variety of albums (Dansco and Whitman mainly)depending on what I am putting in them. For my nicer coins I use the Dansco, for lower grade sets the Whitmans. My main purpose is my kids, they love to look and can not comprehend the do not touch aspect of it, so when they are flipping through things and run their fingers over the coins it does not matter. If you are wanting to have a really nice set with little chance of fingerprints and other contamination, then Dansco is the way to go. If it does not matter than Whitman folders would be a good cheap investment.

I have the above album. I wouldn't really recommend it, as its not the greatest thing. Pretty flimsy, plastic slides are thin, real thin. Needless to say, I have this one for my circulated set of State Quarters, and a Dansco with proofs for my good set. It is definitely hard to get the quarters into this album, Dansco are much easier.

Definitely go with Dansco, spend the extra $5-10, you will never regret it. I own 11 Dansco's now, such a great album.
