While on another failed hunt for a 2008 cent, I came across this 1989 P cent. Focusing on the word "WE", I noticed some kind of doubling on the "E", and extra filling on the "W". Common?

It definitely looks like some form of doubling on the E from your pics- Whether its an actual double die or Machine Doubling?-I don't know.

The resident experts will pin it down to exactly what it is.

Looks MD since there is no doubling to the rest of the "E". Are there any other doubling of this type to the rest of the devices? I personally would keep the coin just for the significance of the triple MD & to use as a reference.
Rest in Peace

It doesn't make sense to me that the letter E would be doubled ( mechanical or otherwise) that much but nothing around it is. I think the letter E has a die chip just like the letter W. The shape of the chip at the E makes it look like doubling. Just my personal thought.

This is an example of die damage due to tooling. This die is rather well known among cent hunters, first discovered a couple of years ago. It's not a doubled die, it's not Machine Doubling, it's a simple curiosity. Expect that some will like it and pay some premium for it, others won't care.
